The Society ended the year with a lively lunch meeting made festive by our dynamic keynote speakers: members of the successful Alice Campion team - Denise Tart, Jenny Crocker and Jane Richards - talking about their collaborative writing process that has resulted in the novel, The Painted Sky. We were pleased to announce the 2016 winner of the Abbie Clancy Award, Meg Brayshaw who is completing her PhD in the Writing and Society Research Centre at Western Sydney University. The Award was judged by longtime supporter of the Society, Emerita Professor Elizabeth Webby, who lends gravitas and erudition to all our activities. Meg’s winning submission was entitled “‘A Fish in the Ocean of Story’: On Christina Stead (1902-1983), watery bodies and the writing self’. She draws on her research into Stead’s papers in the National Library of Australia, with a focus on an unpublished and largely unwritten autobiography Stead outlined in the last year of her life.
Ex-President Dr Jennifer Rumsey and her husband David were present as were many familiar faces. I join with the Committee in wishing our members all the best for the festive season and a creative and productive 2017.
