The winner of The Society’s Writer’s Grant will be announced by Pippa Kay.

Annual General Meeting

The formal business of The Society’s AGM will be conducted, including election of the new Committee for the next 12 months.

Member speaker – Kelly van Nelson: Changing the world with the poetic word

Keynote speaker – Paula McLean: From Feminist Sit-in to the Stella Prize

Paula is an editor, author and immediate past Deputy Chair of the Stella Prize.
She is the immediate past Deputy Chair of the Stella Prize, serving on the Stella Board for six years from 2014. In 2010, she founded The Nature Writing Prize, a biennial essay prize for Australian writers administered by the conservation organisation The Nature Conservancy. She is a founding trustee and manager of McLean Foundation, a family foundation that funds in the areas of the environment, preschool literacy, literature, and indigenous and rural education. Paula has just been appointed to the Book Selection Committee for United Way’s Australian Imagination Library program, a program delivering high quality children’s books each month from birth to 5 years to disadvantaged families.
Her professional roles have included editorial roles in educational publishing, a magazine fiction editor and freelance book editing. She served as Project Writer for The Benevolent Society’s PlayPower program and is the author of PlayPower: Birth to 1 Year and PlayPower: 1-3 Years. She is also the author of the parenting cookbook, Good Foods for Babies and Toddlers.
Paula has three children and eight grandchildren.  She and her husband Rob split their time between Sydney and their property in the Southern Highlands where they look after an organic orchard and vegetable garden.
