Member Profiles

Valerie was born in London and educated in the UK. As a teenager, she learnt to sail which ignited a life-long passion for sailing and the sea.

In her mid-twenties she moved to New Zealand for a year. That year turned into twenty-two, during which she raised her two children, worked as a high school teacher, a social worker and an academic. Migrating to Australia in 1997, her sojourn was interrupted by a move to Fiji, where she became caught up in the 2000 coup, and then a move to Oxford (UK). She worked in the areas of women’s health and education, developing a special interest in education for global citizenship. Now settled on the Central Coast of New South Wales, she enjoys being near family and the sea, and having time to indulge in her love of writing.
