Susan Steggall joined SWW NSW in 1996 and served on the committee from 1998-2006 (Treasurer) & 2013-2017 (President & Co-President, 2015-2017).
After degrees in the biosciences from Sydney University in the 1960s, Susan worked in the pharmaceutical industry until a love of wintersports drew her to the French Alps for a decade – the 1980s. On her return to Sydney, Susan gained Master and Bachelor Degrees in Art History & Theory, followed by a PhD in Creative Writing (University of NSW).
She has written a memoir of her time in France, Alpine Beach: A family adventure (1999), and a family history series. Her biography A most generous scholar: Joan Kerr. Art and architectural historian, was a non-fiction winner in the 2013 SWW NSW Book Awards.
Other publications include novels spiced with art and its history: Forget me not (2006), It happened tomorrow (2013) and ‘Tis the doing not the deed (2019); art-related articles, book and exhibition reviews, book chapters and short stories. Susan edited three anthologies for the Society of Women Writers NSW Inc and was editor of the ISAA Review (journal of the Independent Scholars Association of Australia Inc) from 2010 to 2015.
